Faire Promoted Listings: New Settings & Strategy
Breaking down the new controls and how to use them to make the most of your ad spend.
Faire recently rolled out a handful of new controls for Promoted Listings, giving brands more flexibility in how they advertise and where their budgets go. With holiday buying season underway, I thought this was a good time to share a few things worth looking at.
From growth mode and store type boosting to product boosting, new product promotion, and flexible budgets, there's are a lot more routes to consider when setting up your ads. But more options don't necessarily mean you need to completely change everything.
As a retail strategist, I've spent the past few weeks reviewing these updates with clients, and I'm breaking down one by one what I'd actually adjust, what I'd test, and where I'd focus to make the most of your ad spend.
Growth mode
This controls how aggressively Faire bids for your ads. Before increasing it, look at how much of your existing budget you're actually spending and whether those ads are converting profitably. Spending more isn't necessarily going to bring better results.
Store type boosting
You can now prioritize specific types of retailers. I'd start with one or two categories where you're already seeing strong sales and repeat orders, rather than trying to reach everyone.
Product boosting
This is one I'm particularly interested in! You can give certain products an extra push, which is great for proven bestsellers or seasonal collections. With holiday buying underway, it's worth reviewing your Christmas assortment, but make sure you have enough inventory before putting additional spend behind anything.
Boost new products
Faire can automatically boost products added within the last 60 days. Personally, I'd leave this off unless you're actively launching a new collection and want to prioritize getting it in front of retailers.
Flexible budget
This allows Faire to spend up to 40% more during busier periods. I'd only consider enabling it if your existing budget is being used consistently and delivering profitable results.
Separate budgets for new and returning retailers
This isn't new, but it's worth revisiting alongside the other changes. Remember, some of your existing retailers would probably reorder anyway, especially if you're already communicating with them through email. Focusing on email marketing can sometimes be more efficient for those existing retailers. You don't necessarily need to pay to reach them again!
My biggest advice?
Don't change everything at once. Start with one or two adjustments, monitor the results, and give them enough time to see what's actually working. I'd also look at year-over-year performance rather than relying entirely on month-over-month comparisons, particularly with seasonal buying patterns.
The right setup really depends on your own numbers, which retailers reorder, which products convert, and what you actually have available to sell. These changes and adjustments are the kinds of decisions we’re working through with our clients.
